Dr. Shohre Mehvar, OMD, LAc

Dr. Mehvar attended South Baylo University where she received her Bachelors in Holistic Science as well as her Masters and Doctorates in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. She is licensed in the State of California and certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.

Dr. Mehvar continues to obtain post-graduate education to meet the needs of patients facing complex, contemporary health and lifestyle challenges. In 2010, she completed continuing education at Harvard Medical School for clinical training in Mind-Body Medicine, which is Herbert Benson’s program differentiating Mind-Body Medicine from other programs. She completed biofeedback training and certification in 2007.

She has obtained education from the Institute of Functional Medicine in 2019. Obtained certification in nutritional pain management from the Academy of Integrated Pain Management, taught by Dr. Robert Bonakdar.

One of her greatest achievements is her unique weight loss program. Dr. Mehvar’s own six-week protocol incorporates a special diet along with acupuncture for reduced craving, stimulating metabolism and endocrine system. In addition to weight loss, the doctor specializes in pain management, fibromyalgia, depression, and her renowned acupuncture face-lift. Due to varied methods of healing, Dr. Mehvar has helped patients ranging from professional athletes to those suffering from mental health conditions.

As a survivor of stage three-breast cancer, she has deep understanding of those struggling from both physical and mental issues. She individualizes treatment for every person and offers a flexible schedule- especially in times of emergency. Being one of the best in her field, it is her compassion and sympathy for patients that truly make her one of a kind. She was a member of several associations including: Integrated Medical Association, American College of Nutrition, Academy of Integrated Health and Medicine (AIHM), and Academy of Integrated Pain Management (AIPM).

She has been licensed and board certified in the state of California since 2002. In the state of CA, licensed acupuncturists are educated and deemed primary care providers, who do not require referrals.

Dr. Shabnam Pourhassani L.Ac. Q.M.E, DACM, MSHS, FABORM, CHt

In practice for nearly twenty years; Dr. Pourhassani is a  licensed acupuncturist and herbalist with a Bachelors in Holistic Science and a Masters and Doctorates in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.  She has been appointed a qualified medical evaluator (QME) by the state of California since 2012 (QME).

She is affiliated with multiple hospitals, where she provides consultations for acupuncture for specific health conditShe took time off from her private practice to volunteer her monthly at Lestonnac Free Clinic since February 2014 until December 2017.

Motivated to continue advancing her methods and education, Dr. Pourhassani received additional years of post-graduate training in infertility, pregnancy, and pediatrics. Her monumental success stories with women once unable to conceive with IVF inspired her to become fellow of the American Board of Reproductive Medicine (ABORM). She was a member and ad hoc grant reviewer at the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM).

With other areas of expertise in post-surgical rehab, narcotic none-pharmaceutical taper and addiction rehab, Dr. Pourhassani stresses the importance of a alternative primary care and obtaining consultations from her as soon as symptoms start, injuries occur. She has been board certified since 2008.  She presented her the abstract of her original qualitative research study; The Barriers of Inpatient Implementation of Acupuncture at an Academic Medicine Center at multiple national and international conferences (2023-2025).

Her research interest encompasses two complementary areas of focus: perioperative care and emergency medicine.

“In perioperative care, my work centers on acute post-surgical interventions aimed at reducing the risk of developing chronic pain. This includes identifying strategies that not only improve immediate recovery but also mitigate long-term pain trajectories. In certain populations, particularly trauma patients, acute post-surgical pain management must begin in the emergency department, creating an important intersection between perioperative and emergency care.

In emergency medicine, my research interest is directed toward strategies to reduce length of stay in the emergency department (ED) and to decrease unnecessary inpatient admissions for pain-related conditions. I am particularly interested in system-level approaches, care coordination models, and evidence-based, non-pharmaceutical pain management interventions that enhance efficiency while ensuring safe, patient-centered care. Together, these research interests aim to improve pain outcomes, reduce healthcare utilization, and strengthen continuity of care across acute and emergency settings.”
